Investigation of structure-activity relationships of supported vanadium oxide species in photocatalytic oxidation reactions
- In this work differently structured supported vanadia catalysts (isolated \(VO_4\) species, oligomerized vanadia species and \(V_{2}O_{5}\) nanoparticles) were synthesized in a targeted manner by variation of the supporting oxide as well as the vanadia loading. The molecular structure of the supported vanadia species was investigated by laser Raman spectroscopy. Structural and electronic properties were examined by diffuse reflectance UV-vis spectroscopy. The potential photocatalytic activity of the catalysts was evaluated by means of model reactions (methanol oxidation, dye degradation). An identification of the active site of the vanadia catalysts was realized by selective excitation. Possible effects of contaminants in the supports on the structure, the electronic properties and consequently on the photocatalytic activity of the supported vanadia catalysts are discussed. In liquid-phase reactions, a contribution of dissolved vanadates to photocatalytic activity was evidenced.
